About

Hi, I’m Lion. I’m a photographer, videographer and tech nerd, and I split my time between Berlin and Tokyo. As an artist I go by Lion Stark, for gaming and tinkering it’s MappleBox.

I put together my first computer when I was eight, and soon after I was modding consoles and Game Boys. That got me into game design, which I went on to study. After a stint in corporate marketing, I now shoot portraits, events, companies and travel, in photo and video. You can see my work at lionstark.com.

I used to build gaming PCs, streaming setups and custom keyboards for clients. These days this site is mostly about my homelab, self-hosting and streaming setups. Since 2019 I’ve also been part of unholy.gg, an agency for creator management, media production, server infrastructure and IRL events.

What you’ll find here

  • The homelab log. My homelab runs across two sites, Berlin and France, with Proxmox, Plex, Home Assistant, Paperless and my own monitoring. What works and what crashes ends up here.
  • Self-hosting guides you can follow step by step, even if you’re new to Linux.
  • Streaming setups and the tech behind them: audio, camera, light and software.

How I test

  • I only write about hardware and software I’ve built, used or set up myself.
  • Photos are my own, and configs come from my real setups.
  • Before a guide goes live, someone who isn’t me has to be able to follow it from start to finish.
  • Affiliate links are marked and don’t change my opinion. Details are in the affiliate disclosure.
